(see on map) mike: Our Host, Edi, at Edi's Sea View Rooms, played a big part in our enjoyment of Dubrovnik. His place, just outside of the old town, had a great location and killer view from the balcony.
He told us about three specific restaurants, out of dozens, serving up great seafood at good prices and in general keyed us in on the highlights here and even for our next destinations to follow.
Below Trin is getting oriented on the main drag in Dubrovnik. The town was packed with cruise boat tourists by day but quickly cleared out after the 5pm cattle call back to the boat.
Not only was Dubrovnik's wall the biggest we had yet to encounter, you can actually walk along the top taking in great 360 degree views. We read the wall and town were badly damaged by shelling in a 1991 siege though exhaustive work has gone into restoring the wall with nearly matching stones, I would have never known.Trin from the top of the wall. Ain't she pretty?
Squid, squid, and more squid. We tried it fried, grilled, and in rissoto, good any which way.
On our night out on the town we ended up at the oddly named Latin Club, though we didn't hear any Enrique Iglesias, we get our dance on to some great techno.
Dip #2 in the Adriatic was at Lokrum Island an easy boat ride away and well worth the effort where you can hike around and take in some great views looking back at Dubrovnik. You've got to watch out for sea urchins here though (and Croatia in general), they are tucked into every nook and cranny on the rocks.
Wall on the way back to the harbor from Lokrum.
